Throughout our journey with the Museum of Science, Ms. Crowell and Raymond went head to head; Mrs. Prunier got hoisted by students, and much, much more. This presentation occurred on September 18 in the gym. The 3, 4, and 5 grade watched this performance featuring forces and machinery such as lever, pulley, wedge, axle, wheel, and inclined plane.
The first event featured a third grader on a cart to teach friction, distance, and gravity. The more weight or mass on the cart slowed it down.
Ms.Crowell and Raymond went head to head for one of the events. There were two axles connected to one pole. Raymond had the choice to choose the bigger axle or the smaller axle. Raymond chose the bigger one so Ms.Crowell was faced with the little one. Soon the contest begun! Ms.Crowell struggled to turn the small axle while Raymond effortlessly spun the big axle. Raymond ended up winning the challenge, but it wasn't because Raymond was stronger. It was because the littler axle was harder to spin. you could have a kindergartner spinning the bigger axle and an adult spinning the small axle and the kindergartner would win.
One other event was lifting Mrs.Prunier! Three students lifted Mrs.Prunier in a seesaw like lever. The longer pole on Mrs. Prunier's side means she would not go very high. The longer pole on the lifting side means more leverage. So when it was time Mrs. Prunier volunteered to be hoisted. Wooo! Up she went with a smile on her face. Soon after the show concluded. What a show!
