What we did for Pi day was really fun and exciting. The first thing we did for Pi day is everybody out of the grade had to bring in circular recyclable items that you could trace on paper. Then you would have to trace the item to find out the circumference. The circumference is the distance around a circle. Then you would have to find the diameter of the circle. The diameter is the distance across a shape. Then with the answer you got for the circumference and the diameter you would divide them together. Then with the answer you get it would be close the the first three numbers of Pi. Then we recorded our answers on a big piece of paper and put it in the hall so everybody could see the magnificent work that the fifth graders did.
Also, this Pi day, everyone in grade five had the chance to memorize as many numbers of Pi as they could. You would have to memorize the number because each class was having a contest who could memorize the most numbers of Pi. For each class only three people could win, someone would come in first, second or third place. No, you can’t eat the number Pi, but you can eat the yummy delicious mini whoopie pie that you got if you won the contest! The reason we have Pi day on March 14 is because the first three digits of Pi is 3.14 and March is the third month of the year and it is on the 14th day. The fun things we did on Pi day were to celebrate the awesome number that we call Pi.
