The science connection of this whole process was that we got to learn about tectonic plates, the layers of the Earth and landforms and how their made. For tectonic plates we learned that there are 15 major tectonic plates. Tectonic plates are what cause sinkholes, earthquakes and tsunamis. For the layers of the Earth we studied about what scientists did know and only assumed about. The mantle is made of liquid and solid iron, nickel, magnesium, silicon, and aluminum. The outer core is made of molten iron and nickel. The inner core is made of solid iron, and nickel.
Lastly, the crust is made of solid rock. For landforms, things such as landslides can create, move or destroy landforms. One example of this process is The Old Man On the Mountain. Weathering loosened the rock that it was holding onto, then wind knocked it right off the cliff face. This project was a fun and helpful way to really understand what our Earth is like.
